Antioxidants and the role oxidation plays in the human body
You've probably seen on most commercials that vitamin companies and juice companies are touting the benefits that they are incorporating more and more antioxidants into their ingredients. Antioxidants are a chemical reaction that occurs. And the best way to think about oxidation is rust. You have some steel it rusts, or iron it rusts, and it's being oxidized. We used to think that oxidation was responsible for aging, for heart disease and even cancer. We have had a lot of studies since that time that have actually shown that is not the case. Not only is that not the case but there are parts of the oxidative portions of our bodies that are important to us. Did you know for example when white blood cells surround the bacteria and kill it, what they do is they oxidate it. It's the oxidative properties of white blood cells that help us fend off the bacteria in our body. So do you really need to buy all the antioxidants that are out there? Probably not. Sill it's a good idea to eat healthy eat well and enjoy the day. I'm Doctor Terry Simpson, those are your doctor's orders.
