Today on your supermarket shelf you are going to see a bunch of different eggs - ranging from your basic eggs that don't cost too much to some very expensive varieties. The question is, "Does it matter what kind of egg I use?" Whether it's brown, or whether it's white, whether it's organic, or whether it's not, the answer is - it does. The real secret of eggs is how the chicken is fed. If the hens are fed on a diet that is high in flax seeds, the eggs may contain about 10 times as much of Omega 3 fatty acids, which is a very healthy thing that we want because it prevents problems with the heart, prevents stroke, helps the brain, a great thing. In fact Omega 3 fatty acids and some of their breakdown products are now recommended for women who are pregnant so that their developing fetuses, the children they are going to have, will be a little bit smarter. So be smart, when you go to the grocery store and look at the dairy case you will see eggs that are labeled higher in Omega 3 fatty acids. It really is worth a couple of extra dollars. We've even gone so far as to say that there is a minimum requirement for Omega 3 fatty acids in your diet. So, eggs do make a difference.  Shop smart. I'm Doctor Terry Simpson and that's your doctors orders.
