Gastric Plication Surgeon Dr. Terry Simpson explains the surgery
Gastric Plication is the newest and most revolutionary weight loss surgery that is talked about today...and what is it? Essentially Gastric Plication folds the stomach in on itself. Done laparoscopically, meaning through very small incisions, the surgeon is able to make small little sutures into the stomach so that the stomach folds in on itself. What that means to the patient is that they have a limited volume they can eat...and yet they are going to be satisfied. The advantages of Gastric Plication? There is no stapling of the stomach. There is no removing of the stomach. There is no bypass of the stomach. The entire stomach is still there. There isn't a long staple line that can bleed or break down. Essentially with the plication where the stomach is folded in on itself you have a procedure which may be the ideal bariatric procedure.
